Scenario Description

After hernia reduction, meticulous suturing of the esophageal hiatus in the diaphragm is performed. Continuous or individual non-absorbable sutures are used, depending on the surgeon’s preference and case specifics. The goal is a permanent closure of the hiatus to prevent the migration of abdominal structures into the thorax.

Instructions

Place 3 simple interrupted sutures on the diaphragm to bring its edges together.

Preparation

📌 Training module
Diaphragm module should be placed on the back wall of the stand by attaching it to the fastener. Then the diaphragm should be clamped to create a subtle traction on it. Needle should be placed in the starting position. Prepared module should be placed in the supposed position inside.

📌 Training module position
Place the module in the training area in the middle position.

📌 Instruments
Prepare 5 mm instruments: dissector and needle holder.

📌 Instrument ports
Use the 2nd and 9th instrument ports.

📌 Accessories
Prepare a needle with 10 cm suture.
