Suturing

Scenario Description

In this exercise you will execute a continuous horizontal suturing pattern with additional impediment caused by restricted maneuvering space. This technique is time saving in comparison to multiple single knots. This technique is frequently used to suture longer parts of tissues together.

Instructions

  1. Grab the needle from starting position.
  2. Position the needle in needle holder and pierce through the suturing module in its upper part.
  3. Drag the suture so that few centimeters are left on the side without a needle.
  4. Tie surgical 2x1x1 knot.
  5. Pierce through the following parts of the module in 0,5-1 cm interspaces until the end is reached.
  6. When piercing through the end part leave short segment of the suture to form “U” shape.
  7. Tie surgical 2x1x1 knot using U-shaped part of suture as its short end.

Preparation

📌 Training Module
Use two parts of the Suturing training module: the lower part (base) and the upper part, which creates a limited field of vision for the surgical area.
Attach the long silicone suturing element at the center of the base in a vertical position, and the needle start position near the top edge of the upper part.
Join the two parts of the module by placing the upper part over the lower part and pressing firmly until you hear a click.

📌 Accessories
Prepare a needle with 20 cm suture.
Place it in the start position.

📌  Training module position
Place the module in the training area in the middle position.

📌 Instruments
Prepare 5 mm instruments: dissector and needle holder.

📌 Instrument ports
Use the 2nd and 9th instrument ports.

Keep your attention

Ultimately, you are the best judge of your training experience. Take a moment to reflect and ask yourself if you’ve met the criteria outlined below.

🎯 Suture must cover the whole length of the module.

🎯 Knots must be tied according to the technique.

🎯 Edges of the module must be coupled.

🎯 Suture can not cross between following pierces.

🎯 Duration of training is about 15 min.
