Scenario Description
This scenario shows suturing the distant structures which generates tension during the suturing. In this kind of situations it’s useful to use a sliding knot because of its secure tissue connection and stable structure. In this exercise the goal is to suture two silicone inserts which are spread 1 cm apart.
Instructions
- Grab the needle from starting position.
- Position the needle in needle holder and pierce through the right and then left part of the suturing module.
- Drag the suture so that few centimeters are left on the side without a needle.
- Tie 1×1 sliding knot.
- Pierce through the following parts of the module in 0,5-1 cm interspaces until the end is reached.
- When piercing through the end part leave short segment of the suture to form “U” shape.
- Tie surgical 2x1x1 knot using U-shaped part of suture as its short end.
- Cut off the excessive part of the suture.
Preparation
Training Module
Use two parts of the Suturing training module: the lower part (base) and the upper part.
Join them together, press firmly until you hear a click.
Unscrew the screws and insert pieces of rectangular silicone material between the clasps, maintaining a 1 cm distance between them.
Tighten the screws so that the silicone does not slide out.
Place the starting position at the edge of the module.
Accessories
Prepare a needle with 25 cm suture.
Place it in the start position.
Training module position
Place the module in the training area in the middle position.
Instruments
Prepare 5 mm instruments: dissector, needle holder and scissors.
Instrument ports
Use the 2nd and 9th instrument ports.
Keep your attention
Ultimately, you are the best judge of your training experience. Take a moment to reflect and ask yourself if you’ve met the criteria outlined below.
Suture must cover the whole length of the module.
Knots must be tied according to the technique.
Edges of the module must be coupled.
Suture can not cross between following pierces.
Duration of training is about 15 min.
