Scenario Description
Most structures and tissues in laparoscopic procedures are characterized by their elasticity, which requires the surgeon to have great precision and an understanding of the forces at work in the surgical field. This elasticity is further influenced by the ports, which are positioned variably. By performing this exercise, you can not only observe how the forces within the surgical field affect different structures but also learn to control and compensate for these forces.
Instructions
- Pull the string from the starting position.
- Move the string to the center and place it under the two central elastic bands.
- Create a loop and pull it tight so that the bands form an X shape.
- Flick the string out.
- Grab the string and pull it through the hole in the top middle post, positioning it in the final spot.
Preparation
📌 Training module
Use the Tension training module.
Stretch 4 elastic bands between the upper and lower posts.
Place a single piece of string in the hole of the lower middle post.
📌 Training module position
Place the module in the training area in the middle position.
📌 Instruments
Prepare 5 mm instruments: a grasper and a dissector.
📌 Instrument ports
Use the 2nd and 9th ports.
Keep your attention
Ultimately, you are the best judge of your training experience. Take a moment to reflect and ask yourself if you’ve met the criteria outlined below.
The string was tightened to create an X shape.
The string was placed in the post in the final position.
Duration of training is about 15 min.
